1 dead, 1 injured in helicopter crash near Houston (initial release)  

JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO- SAM HOUSTON, TEXAS– One pilot is dead, while an instructor pilot was critically injured and is currently being treated at West Houston Medical Center after an AH-64D Apache helicopter crashed at approximately 7 a.m. today.

The names of the individuals involved are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The helicopter was from the 2nd Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment out of Fort Campbell, Kentucky and crashed near Houston during a training flight for the upcoming JBSA Open House and Air Show.

The cause of the incident is under investigation, and additional details will be provided as they become available.
