2 dead in helicopter crash near Houston (Follow-up release)

  JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO- SAM HOUSTON, Texas– Army pilot 1st Lt. James Snuka died and flight instructor Maj. Randall Savage died while being treated at West Houston Medical Center after an AH-64D Apache helicopter crashed at approximately 7 a.m. on Sept. 16, 2024.

The helicopter was from the 2nd Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment, 101st Airborne Division out of Fort Campbell, Kentucky and crashed near Houston during a training flight for the upcoming JBSA Open House and Air Show.

The cause of the incident is under investigation, and additional details will be provided as they become available.
