Three airmen killed in C-17 crash near Fort Riley (Initial Release)

FORT RILEY, Kan. – Two pilots and a loadmaster were killed when a C-17 Globemaster III from the 60th Air Mobility Wing at Travis Air Force Base crashed near Fort Riley, Kansas, on September 18, 2024, at 10:37 a.m. 

A third crew member remains in serious condition, while five others were treated for minor injuries. 

The aircraft was en route to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst when the crash occurred. 

The damages are estimated to be $32,541.63 and the area will be rezoned as agricultural. 

The incident is currently under investigation.
